To all brand new players of Open Beta Pi Story, hosted and published by Aeria Games and Entertainment (AGE), welcome aboard :D This guide will assist you in playing the game, learning the Basics of movement, questing, and fighting. So come, follow Corinthia, as she goes through the journey of a brand new player.
Note: This guide assumes that you have downloaded, installed, and ran Pi Story, and have created a character. This guide will begin from when you start the game.
Also, a warning. This post will be loaded with Screenshots. I'll keep them as Thumbs for manageability, but the page will undoubtedly load slowly, so please be patient. Also note that I'm posting Thumbnails at specific points, with detailed, step-by-step thumbnail structuring early on, but as I get further along, I will make it less detailed, only posting the absolute minimum that I expect new players to need.
Anyways, if you need to find a specific section in the guide, use the Find feature, Ctrl+F, and look for the appropriate Step:
Introdution
Step 1: Welcome to Pi Story
Step 2: Welcome to the Town of Pantheon
Step 3: Welcome to Lower Pantheon
Step 4: The Graveyard, and your first Pi journey
Step 5: Act 1, Real Combat and First Boss
Step 6: Finishing up quests, using skills, and moving on
Conclusion
When you first start the game, you will be in a house:
Using the Arrow Keys, go to Eris and Press the F key to start a conversation:
Chat with her as you like, then, when you are finished, Click the Quest option and accept the Quest from her:
Whenever you accept a quest, a message pops up saying you have been given a quest, and whenever you finish a quest, a message pops up saying you completed a quest. In this case, since you only need to meet Aris, and don't need to do anything special, the quest is called complete, and you can go find Aris to get your reward. To do that, you need to go to that shimmering blue Portal, press F, and you will teleport to the next area:
Here, you will look for Aris. Talk to him like you did with Eris, and when you are done, click the Quest option and confirm your completed quest. When you do so, you will be thanked and rewarded. Rewards will vary, and as the quests get harder, the rewards become bigger, with more experience, money (Cony) and special items, like weapons, equipment, Pi eggs, and more:
Now, there are some Non Playing Characters (NPCs) who have additional quests, like Aris. So, you need to open up a chat with him again, and accept the other quests he offers:
When you are done with that, accepting both quests, you'll want to use the Pi Aris gave you. Click Start in the Upper Left of the screen. That will start your Party and ability to travel to a whole new area. Click Go to start transit, wait for the 5 second countdown (this gives you time to cancel, in case you forgot something), then you are off:
Step 2: Welcome to the Town of Pantheon
Now, you are in the Town of Pantheon, which is the main town that you will be working from. While here, you can go to other area's or Acts, through the use of Pi eggs, just like you used that Pi egg to come to Pantheon.
You start in the Temple, and you need to talk with Harpe, who is a great source of information. She has history and game knowledge which can help you understand what Pi Story is about. Talk with her, then do the Quest steps as before, remembering to start new quests:
When you are ready, go to the portal, press F, and you are now in the main part of town:
You'll see a lot of people wandering around. Since this is an MMORPG, there will be other people, just like you and me, playing. Some are new, some have been playing a while. Feel free to chat with them, or read their chat in the chat box, lower part of the screen (hit enter to chat, type a message, and hit enter again to talk to everyone. Hit enter again to end chat, or type another message if you want). When you are ready to proceed with this tutorial, just follow along.
As you saw up top, there is a help box which tells you about F5. So press it now. You'll see all players disappear. You will only see NPCs (green names) and Party Members. You can also use the Minimap (top right) to find major NPCs as green dots, and party members as blue dots:
Now, walk to Evans and press F, and go through the chat routine again. You notice there is a lot of routine. This game was designed to be simple, so take advantage of that:
After completing the chat, and getting quests, you'll need to find Sherri, to the left. Talk with her, then move to Slash, who is 2 characters to the left of Sherri:
After that, find Sara by going straight down, and just a little to the right, under the big tree. Talk to her, then find Old Man Jose to the left of her:
Go right, and slightly up, to find Gus, and almost right in between Evans and Gus, you'll find Mina. Talk to her, and accept her quests:
Now, before you go off to meet someone else, let's talk about equipping yourself. First, hit F5 (I skipped this earlier, but you will have noticed that after hitting F5 before, and after talking with Evans, that help box popped up again telling you to press F5 to see all players. Anyways, do this now). This will continue the help box tutorial. An arrow will point to the Bag button and tell you to click it, or press B. Do so. Same with Character:
Now, go to your equipment. Equip your Sword, Shoes and Gloves by either clicking and dragging to your Character Sheet's Equip, or Right Clicking the item:
Now, take a look at your next item, the Cross Sallet. You see that it's a Level 3 item, and it's shown in Red, while the other items showed the Level in white. By this time, you are Level 2, and can use those, but since the Sallet is Level 3, you do not have the experience level to use it. So hold onto this, and close out of both screens:
Remember the portal right next to Evans. That's where you came from, after talking to Harpe. There is another Portal just left of that, so go to that one and press F:
Step 3: Welcome to Lower Pantheon
After entering Lower Pantheon, go due right, and find Regis:
Go left to find Margaret, and help her feed her chickens. Find them just south of Mai and Margaret:
Talk to Ken, just left of Margaret, get his quests, then talk to Mai, the last one of this cluster:
Ok, as you can see here, it's kinda hard to see Mai with those players surrounding her. Well, in case you forgot, you can press F5 to hide those Players. Voila, now you can see Mai. You can do this at anytime, if you can't see an NPC, or if you are getting laggy, and need to improve your latency. Anyways, go ahead and talk to her, as I said:
Find Kate at the bottom right. Now, you may have noticed that some of the green dots in the minimap turn red. This helps you find an NPC who will let you complete a quest and give you the reward. Use this to help you. Also, after you find someone, you may notice a ! or ? above their heads. ! (whether green or gold) means they've got a quest for you. A Green ? means you are doing a quest from that NPC. A Gold ? means you can talk to this NPC for the reward:
After you find Kate and talk to her, try accepting both quests. First accept the next Meet Quest (Meet Eric). Then, try to accept the next quest. You may get a message saying you cannot accept any more quests. This is because you are limited to having 5 Active quests at any one time. So, lets leave Kate for now and move on:
Find Eric above Kate (remember the red dot?), then talk to Marion. After this, go all the way to the bottom left, to the Graveyard Portal and go through:
Step 4: The Graveyard, and your first Pi journey
After entering the Graveyard, talk to Sabrina, accept her new quest, then go to the upper portal to go to the main part of town again:
You'll have to do some more searching, but you need to find either Nero or Pero to complete the feeding quest. They like to wander around, but it shouldn't take too long to find them. After you finish it, go back to Lower Pantheon:
Remember when you couldn't accept Kate's second quest? Let's try again now:
It worked! Now, you've got 5 quests, no more to do in town, and it's time to do your first Pi travel. Before we do that, by now, you have probably reached Level 3. Well, do you remember the Sallet in your bag? Let's see it. Now, the Level 3 is white, so you can equip it. Close out... Awwww, doesn't Corinthia look cute?  Anyways, onward  :
Open your bag up, and click the Pi Tab and look for the Pi called Training Pi. Right Click it, and you should be able to Go. If you don't have any info in the top left, just click that big yellow arrow:
Notice all those party options? You can access those by clicking the little Yellow Arrow at the lower right of the Pi info screen (top right will make the info disappear, like before). Here, if you are Party Leader (shown by the Orange border around a player's box above the options), you can change options, which are explained in the following paragraph:
Public/Private will either let anyone join, or only be able to join by Invite, which you can do by Right Clicking a player and clicking Invite from that menu. Party name lets you pick a new party name. Have fun, so long as it is clean, not vulgar, and is no more then 10 characters long, including spaces. Password locks the party for only people who know your password (good for Guild or Friend Only parties, since you can tell them in Guild or Whisper chat your password). Exp. either evenly splits experience, rounded down, or gives experience based on how much damage a player deal to an enemy, minimum 1 exp. Bidding lets you collect anything, or just equip/weapons that only you use (like a Fighter does not pick up a Mage's Cane if Class Specs. is selected). Finally, other items either gives loot or food items to everyone (rotating by position in party) or, by who ever picks it up first. Other than Party Name and Password, those options only matter if you actually want to have people in your party. For those two, some people use Party name to post afk messages, and people use passwords to play solo games, although you can also click on the open blocks above, and X them out, closing them to other players.
When you are ready, Click Go (Start then Go if need be). Countdown, and party time:
Here, you will learn the basics of movement, running, dashing, jumping, picking up items, sitting to heal and rest, attacking, throwing, tossing, shoving, and so on. It also teaches you the basics of the Mission Point (MiP) Shop. Just follow the instructions when a new Mission pops up. Do it right, and it'll proclaim Mission Cleared:

And no, it does not have to take nearly 30 minutes. Normally, it can be finished in 3-5 minutes, depending how long you want to spend practicing, and how long it takes you to heal. I just had to step away while I was doing this, which let the timer go.
When you are finished, go through the final portal, and Congrats, you've completed your first Pi, and are back in town:
Step 5: Act 1, Real Combat and First Boss
Now that you've finished basic training, let's go to your first real challenge, Episode 1 Act 1 (or 1-1), Training Ground Pi. Open up your bag and check your Pis. Notice, you do not have 1-1. You have 1-2, but right now, that act may be a little difficult for you. You need practice against real targets first, so let's find Sara again:
Sara is the Pi Blackmarketeer, and she can provide Training Pis and Training Ground Pis for free. Go ahead and buy a Training Ground Pi:
Now, when you buy it, it should already become your default. Otherwise, open up your bag and use the Pi like you did with the Training Pi:
Now go for it, and get ready to rumble. Go up to your first group of enemies. *shock* They're attacking! Yup. From here on, enemies are dangerous, unlike Training Pi. Here, you have to fight your way to victory, and try not to die. Fight through, then hit the portal at the end:
In this next area, you'll notice something new. A big Health Bar has popped up near the top of your screen. That means there is a boss in this area. So watch out. Unlike the little monsters, Bosses have a lot of HP, can do more damage, and have really bad tempers. Fight your way to the Boss now:
When you reach the boss, you'll need to be careful. Boss fights take finesse to win. Since they are not effected by special attacks, like throwing or shoving, you have to rely on normal attacks or dash attacks (remember the Shift + Arrow from the Training Pi? This can actually hurt enemies if you dash through them). Try to attack quickly, and dash behind the boss to avoid his attacks. You will most likely get hurt, maybe even badly. If that happens, run away, stay out of his line of attack, then sit down to rest (Alt). Heal up, but do so quickly, because Bosses also heal, unlike regular monsters. Using Food, or the potions you got from the Training Pi and quests can help you here. We'll get to that later:
Eventually, if you can outfight and outwit the boss, you will beat him, get the reward, and the Act Cleared screen will show. Congrats! Now, just like Harpe before, Karl will have stuff you can get, from his MiP Shop. You can get more Act 2 Pis, which you should be able to better handle, now that you are more comfortable with fighting real monsters. You can also get boiled eggs, which slowly heal HP over time, up to 30 HP ( 6 heals, 5 HP each, for about 12-15 seconds), and Honey Cookies, which heals Magic Points. Not something of use to Newbies, btw, so you can ignore this one:
When you are ready, leave the area through the portal, and return to town:
Btw, as seen here, you can, at anytime, close the Tip Box by clicking the X. This will open up again when you enter a new area, as you will see in the next screen shot, but if you check the box first, then it'll remain closed until you log off. This Tip Box will return when you logon until you hit lvl 6.
Step 6: Finishing up quests, using skills, and moving on
Again, you'll see that Evans is red. Go talk to him and claim your reward. Afterwards, you should be able to go to Kate in Lower Pantheon and claim your reward from her. Congrats! You have learned the basics of chatting, questing, using Pis, and fighting!
One Final note before I close. You've leveled up a couple of times, and gained some HP and SP. What else do you get, though? Well, aside from those, and character attributes (automatic, based on class), you also get Skill points for each level. You can use skills to give you special attacks, buffs, abilities, and special passive skills to enhance you. Remember where your Bag and Character Button was? Your Skill button is next to them. Click that, or press K:
You will now see a Skill sheet. Notice, that as a new player, every skill is grayed out. You can't use any of them in that state. Now, take a look at the top 2 skills in the tree. You'll notice that Flame Wave and Cast Word have a Red UP button, while the others are gray. That's because you have the pre-requisite needed to use them. Normally, that consists of a Skill Point and being a certain level, in the case of Flame Wave and Cast Word, it's level 3. This is why I didn't point this out earlier. Some players may not reach this point until after finishing 1-1. But, by now, everyone should be at least level 3:
Click on the Red UP button, and you'll notice that the skill icons are now colored in. That means they can be used. If you looked at the info popup (by hovering your mouse cursor over the skill icon), there is a line for Shortcut Slot. If it says Possible, you can click and Drag this skill to your Shortcut Bar (those 8 boxes in the lower right, with Q,W,E,R and A,S,D,F, F being attack/action, which can't be changed). Just drag the skills down to whatever slot you want, and now, you can use those skills in combat by pressing those buttons. You can do the same thing with food items, under the Use tab in your Bag. Just click and drag things like Boiled Eggs, Smoked Eggs and Potions like you did with your skills, and viola, fast food:
Note: Cast Word can not be used unless you have a Casting Word skill (only exception is with Clerics. They can use Cast word to do a prayer phrase, which increases Faith. This is not a concern for Newbies though). You will notice, following the arrow below Cast Word, you see another skill icon for Magic Arrow. This is a Casting Word. Since it's a level 1 skill, you can add a point at any time, however, because it requires Cast Word, you couldn't click UP until you did so for Cast Word. So, if you want, and you are level 3, you can actually ignore Flame Wave for now, and use your 2 points for Cast Word and Magic Missile, and you can use it in combat (if level 4, doesn't matter. You have enough points for all 3 skills):
If you want to use the Cast Word, btw, in combat (so you need to go to a Pi Area first, like 1-1 or 1-2), if you have enough SP (need at least 20 SP), then you can use the Cast Word Skill, which pops up a box above your characters head, and you'll type the cast word. In the case of Magic Arrow, you type Milkyway (non-case sensitive. Caps don't matter), hit enter, and you'll shoot a few magic arrows in front of you.
Thank you for using this guide to help you understand the basics of Pi Story. Now that you've done this, you should be able to play while using this common knowledge. Note, of course, that these steps are not set in stone. While you have the follow the Meet
